Pal-Mates … weekend web tip

Table manners! Sitting on the food not necessarily reccommended.

What’s the state of your feed bins? Mites and mould can proliferate in warm weather if pellet and grain are not used in rotation, or if poorly stored. Keeping your feed dry is essential to prevent mould. Diatomaceous earth is a very fine powder of fossilised diatoms and is mostly silica. It controls mites by dehydration. Many keepers use this to dust the inside of the bins and it is an organic solution. Whilst we still have warmth, it is a good opportunity to clean out feed bins, storage areas and do general maintenance. The days are still long enough to have everything dry before reflling.

With an early start to harvest this year, will there be earlier influx of rodents? Check your defences now.
