Pal-Mates … weekend web tip

Today is World Wildlife Day.
The aim is to raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. 3rd March was chosen to commemorate the signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which took place on 3 March 1973.

These pictured species may be familiar to waterfowl enthusiasts, but did you know they are Endangered? The Baer's Pochard and Laysan duck are Critically Endangered, they may breed readily in our collections but they face very significant challenges in their native environment. Many more are classed as Vulnerable.
