The Association is run by a voluntary,
elected Council, management committees and a secretary. At a regional
level, members keep in touch through a team of ,
whose job it is to welcome and assist new members and organise local
functions.
Through what is mostly a hobby interest,
the British Waterfowl Association opens up new horizons of conservation
concern in many people. Keeping waterfowl can increase an awareness
of wildlife and its habitat requirements.
Through the infectious medium of waterfowl, a fascination of water
and ducks, members are encouraged to widen their interests in wildlife
and its needs. Members' collections hold a nucleus of wildfowl which
could, in future, become part of conservation and reintroduction
programmes. Members also help to maintain the old domestic breeds
of waterfowl.

Each November the BWA also holds a National
Waterfowl Exhibition at the Solihull Riding Club, Warwickshire.
This has rapidly become the most important event in its field.
The association supports several other major shows of Domestic Waterfowl
and provides trophies and rosettes. The dates of these are give on the
Events page, and published in the magazine 'Waterfowl'.
